As each child is unique, so is every “song of love” composition. The “songs of love” are often used to alleviate pain and trauma during painful and scary hospital treatments. When there is much focus on raising awareness and money in order to find a cure for a variety of life threatening illnesses and lifetime disabilities, Songs of Love steps in to bring immediate happiness to the children through their own “songs of love”.
How Songs of Love Began
In January of 1996, John Beltzer came up with an idea that would improve the lives of thousands of children battling lifelong diseases. Seeing music to be an effective source of therapy, John decided to use his talents as a singer/songwriter to provide personalized songs to uplift these ailing girls and boys.
Little Brittany, a 5-year-old suffering from cancer, would be the first recipient of a “song of love”. After hearing the sick girl’s heartfelt gratitude, he believed that this was his calling. He reached out to singer/songwriters from all over the nation, inviting them to compose and record the songs for the children.
With the initial huge success of John’s budding project, the Songs of Love Foundation was established. What sets it apart from the rest of the charitable organizations for kids is the fact that it is the only one that offers such a unique service.
Over the years, more than 1,000 singers and songwriters have taken part in the project. Not only do these individuals get to showcase their talents, but they’re also doing it for a meaningful cause by spreading positivity to ailing kids. Different schools, companies, and even other charities have participated, as well.
John would dedicate Songs of Love to his twin brother, Julio, who sadly passed away two months after creating and recording a song called “Songs of Love”.
“Songs of love are really what we need
To take away our fear
And make the best of love
You and I could never be so free
To realize that love is always there”
